The perfect little window lined breakfast nook for the perfect little kitchen! This breakfast nook is just off the kitchen so it needed to be similar and cohesive with the kitchen scheme. Take a look :) The floor plan for the nook is super simple. The seats have cushions and line the walls just underneath the windows. The window are from the benches to the ceiling and have white trim. These curtains are currently floor to ceiling but I will trim them down to just fit the windows. They are pretty and delicate and provide just the right amount of protection. This table is from Restoration Hardware and the base is wood to match the kitchen table with a white marble top. The white keeps with the neutral theme of the nook while being easy to clean and bright! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, may as well eat it somewhere relaxing! xo

I'm (not surprisingly) in a blast the music kind of mood right now. This is not surprising because anyone who knows me knows that I pretty much always have music playing in my room, in the car, or really when I'm doing anything and everything. And the music is not usually at a normal person volume... its loud! I also tend to love to play the same songs over and over again until I'm super sick of it... I'm sure my friends absolutely love me! So here are my 5 favourite songs right now. Enjoy :) 1. Raging - Kygo and Kodaline 2. Rise Up - Andra Day 3. Scars To Your Beautiful - Alessia Cara 4. Wild Sun - The Strumbellas 5. Let It Go - James Bay (Remix by Bearson) Happy Saturday! xo
The kitchen is the heart of the home. Food is extremely important to family and socialization, and to living :) So much time is spent in a kitchen so you want it to be functional and beautiful. Lots of sitting areas and an open plan help this kitchen to achieve great things. The kitchen is located here! Its a big open space connected to both the living room and dining room.
This kitchen has so many places to sit and eat, hang out, do homework, and cook. The flooring is the same in the entire house and it will look beautiful here as well. 2. The island is a huge part of the kitchen! This is where most of the prep work for meals happens and is a great place for eating and socializing. The side of the island facing the stove will have the cabinet base with the sink in the centre (2) and it will be flanked by the pull drawer base (1) on either side. The other side of the island will have no cabinetry so it can be comfortable for seating. The island will be painted in Wedding Veil (4) fro Benjamin Moore. Finally the pot rack (5) will hang over the island in the centre and the lights (3) will hang on either side.
The lowers under the counter top will be a mixture of drawers (1) and (2). The area above the windows by the sink with be lined with cabinets like (3). These add open storage to display pretty pieces and kitchen plates etc. Finally all of the drawers and cabinets will have these pulls (4). All of the cabinetry will be painted in the same colour as the island. 8. This area will be open storage to hold everything that the kitchen needs that won't be going in drawers. I decided against doing upper cabinets because I wanted to ;eave the kitchen open and have lots of natural light with the window. This area adds a lot of interest and is a great way to display things while being organized. The area will have 4 of these shelving units. Now to add a little colour into the room :) I purposefully kept most of the kitchen in neutrals and light colours so that it can grow with the family and over time. But to add some colour and some personality I've chosen the colours teal (like the walls) and red. Hope this gives you some cooking inspiration! xo
Easy outfit for the day! Boyfriend jeans are my new go to when I'm in a rush or out doing things. You can dress them up a bit, with this peplum top from Urban Outfitters, or dress them down. Honestly my favourite way to wear them may just be with a hoodie... definitely not the most fashion forward but perfect for running errands. I had to run up to Kingston for the day to go to a doctors appointment and it was pretty strange to be back in town for a couple of hours. It definitely made me miss my friends a whole lot, school and Kingston would not be the same without them. I truly am loving this time at home! Its the best feeling to be able to have some time off, visit with friends and family and also work a bit! I have also been working to get blog posts sorted out for the summer while I'm gone... three months is a very long time. Even though you can't see it there is actually a safety pin in the back of these shoes haha! These shoes are pretty special to me, I wore them to my grade 8 graduation and they were the perfect pair in my opinion! They are a little beat up but I think it adds to the charm! Hope you all had a fabulous beginning to your week! xo
People always say that the first impression is always important... the same goes for a house. The entrance should be inviting, clean and reflect your personal style. It also needs to be functional in for certain things. Here is my take on the perfect entrance. First of all here is the flooring I picked out for the entire house. I like dark flooring because I think it looks more modern and also I am biased towards a white or light wall colour so the dark floors help to ground the light colours. This flooring will be laid in a straight herringbone pattern. I love this wall colour! It is called Quiet Moments from Benjamin Moore. This colour is both a grey and a teal, and is the perfect soft colour for the entrance. I chose to tile the first part of the entrance for two reasons. A) it looks really pretty and light when you first walk in and B) it is very easy to clean and is durable against shoes and mud or dirt that is brought in. The tile I chose for this space is a grey limestone in a hexagon lay. The tiles have their own variations which is a nice change from manufactured tile which can look uniform in appearance. This is what I want to staircase to resemble but with a different layout (seen above). I love the openness and the clean lines. Since the entrance has a direct view into the living room this staircase is the perfect piece to highlight the space without blocking eye lines. 1. This rug is definitely a statement when you walk into the house. It is set back a little but so that guests and family members can take off their shoes and get settled before they reach this point. I love the colours, they are muted but still add a lot of impact to the entrance. There is something whimsical about this rug. I started designing the room around this rug, and I think it was the perfect jumping of point. 2. This console is the perfect piece to leave the room open and airy. also love how it mirrors the open staircase. The mirror below hangs about the console and adds a space to get ready right before you head out the door. 3. I chose to hang pendants instead of a table lamp because I think it frames the mirror better and leaves more space on the console for anything that you may bring in with you. Less clutter and more light with two pendants. 4. The perfect little bench to sit and put your shoes on. This bench would be upholstered in white leather but this was the only picture I could get! 5. This art wall will mirror the the mirror and hand on the opposite wall. These pieces are all full of colour but compliment each other! The white and wood frames also compliment the mirror. Hope you make a great first impression sometime today! Next up is the kitchen xo
I think that coming out of high school I got too easily sucked into the mindset that you need a high profile career in order to be successful. I went into first year looking at becoming a Lawyer or something of that nature when in reality I think the title looked more appealing then the actual job itself. In my first year of university I realized that I love being creative and I want to be able to be working at something I love all of the time. I've decided that I want to become an interior designer. I guess for you to understand this you will have to learn a little bit more about me... interior designing and design itself has always been a passion of mine. At the age of 10 my first ever DS game was an interior design simulator, and I remember playing that game all the way down to Boston on a family road trip. I also used to watch home design shows as a kid... like a lot of them. I guess I just never thought it would be something I could have as a career. I know this is a silly example but its the truth. I love organization, colours and styles of homes, I know that I would love to be an interior designer. I just finished first year so my goals and aspirations in life may change, but at this point in my life I know this is where I want to end up. So I guess we will have to just wait and see. Dream Home:So I have decided to design my dream home over the summer. Just as styles and whats 'in' shift and change, my style does too. But I know what I like and what I don't. So for the next couple of months I will be posting my dream house room by room to show a little bit of me and what I love! Floor Plans:Here are the floor plans for the house! I made them and they include everything that I will be designing over the next couple of months. Its obviously a very simple plan but it all makes sense in terms of space and an open layout with lots of room to pull things together. This is post #1, the exterior and floor plan.
Exterior:While I don't know exactly what I would in terms of the architectural form of the house, I know that I love white houses with dark roofs. There is something so clean and simple about them and it just looks so nice against the green of the grass and trees. So no, my dream house does not look exactly like this, but this gives you the idea :) I hope you will follow along and watch as the house develops and is designed! I think in the end it will be fun to watch it all come together! xo
All of my favourite bloggers seem to have two things in common... they are all very fashionable in their own ways and they all seem to have adorable kiddies. So I guess I have a very distinct type... of blogs that I love to read. So I thought that I would share with you 5 of my favourite bloggers whose blogs and Instagrams I have been following for a very long time. I guess after a while you start feeling connected to people because you are getting a personal glimpse into their lives everyday! So here are my five favourite bloggers :) 1. Barefoot Blonde - Amber Fillerup Amber is easily one of my favourite bloggers because she posts a variety of material on a regular basis. From Instagrams, snapchats, blogs and vlogs she has got it all! Here kids are adorable and Amber always has the most amazing hairstyles and outfits. Her vlogs will give you a serious travel bug. 2. Something Navy - Arielle Charnas Arielle lives in NYC and her posts make you want to move there and basically take over her life. She just had an adorable baby girl and her high fashion looks are beautiful to look in front of the New York background. She is a beautiful person and gives you some serious style envy. 3. Hello Fashion Blog - Christine Andrews Christine is one of my favourite bloggers because she regularly posts looks that everyone could pull together and she tries to make fashion affordable. Although she is often wearing expensive and high fashion pieces, she balances that out with hauls from affordable stores and she makes it easy to build your own outfits. Here kids are so cute and she seems very down to earth. 6. Kailee Wright Kailee is a blogger who I have not been following for that long but I have fallen in love with. She is a mom of four and is constantly posting about her life as a mom and things she has found to make her job easier (I honestly find this super interesting). She is also super fashionable and seems like a pretty cool mom. She posts outfits regularly and they are usually adorable but also pretty low key. 5. Cara Loren Cara was probably one of the first bloggers I started following! She is pretty cool in my opinion and she looks amazing doing anything and everything. Cara also posts a great mix of material, from family posts, outfits of the day and travel blogs! She is always on the go and that makes her so interesting to follow. Her outfits are always amazing and I love seeing the unique styles she pulls together. So those are my five favourite bloggers, they provide inspiration to me and they make my Instagram feed a whole lot more interesting! xo
My exams are officially over tomorrow which marks the end of my first year of university! I will definitely be posting more in the next couple of weeks about my first year and thoughts I want to share. For now I am officially home for the next couple of weeks until I leave for camp and it is very nice to be home! I moved back into my bedroom and it was amazing to see how much stuff I had accumulated in my dorm room. I recently put all my clothes back into my closet and it has come to my attention that I have a lot of black and white clothes... I love neutrals and I guess you stick with what you love :) I have been trying to branch out haha but I guess this outfit is definitely in my comfort zone. There is one sad part about being done first year... having to say goodbye and leave my friends. The girls that have become some of my best friends in the entire world were such an important part of my first year, probably the most important part! It was very sad to say goodbye, but we are excited to meet up this spring and summer and thankfully we get a 3 whole years left to see each other everyday! For the next couple of weeks I will be hanging out at home, seeing some of my best friends that I have barely seen while away, working on my blog because I won't be connected as much as I would like over the summer and working here and there. This is the first time I've spent a large amount of time at home since the day I graduated from high school because of camp and I'm excited to live at home for a few weeks. Happy spring! xo
I remember when my parents first told me I was going to be going to sleepover camp at the age of 8... let's just say that I was not too happy about it. There were a lot of tears and confusion about why my parents wanted to send me away for two whole weeks. My parents that summer put me on a bus to Glen Bernard Camp in Sundridge, ON with no one I knew on the bus. Now I can happily say that GBC is easily one of my favourite places in the entire world! Those tears definitely turned into a never ending smile as soon as I set foot at camp and it hasn't moved changed since. I spent the next 9 years as a camper filling my summers with canoeing, sailing, crafts, staying up way to late, and making countless friends. I have spent the last three years on staff at GBC and the good memories I have continue to grow. I love being on staff and it definitely lets my mommy genes loose a little which is a good thing in my opinion. Though there are definitely some days that the meltdowns or craziness of looking after 8 six-year olds gets to you, but I would not exchange my summers at camp for anything. Here are some of my favourite camp memories and moments from the last 11 years I have spent at my favourite place in the world...
I leave for camp on June 6th! So keep an eye out for more posts about one of my favourite places on the planet! There is no place like camp xo
Spring has definitely come to Kingston so the spring outfits can start being pulled out of the back of the closet! The spring weather brings the end of school, and if my calculations are right I'm going to be done school in less then one month. So crazy to think about! This is definitely a nice feeling but it is also kinda scary... First year is almost over and I'm definitely going to miss my friends over the summer :( and I will definitely miss this view! This is the perfect outfit for spring or summer! I love these pants, I got them from a tiny boutique in Sanibel, Florida last year! The company that makes them is called Flyin Tomato. The usually wear these pants with white or cream on top because they are already pretty bold on their own! Perfect outfit for a perfect day :) The cardigan I was wearing is pretty heavy, so its enough of a layer to wear on cooler days! I truly do love the look of the open back and skinny straps of the tank with these pants though. I think this just reminds me of summer so I'm a little biased towards it! Hope you are enjoying the nice weather today! xo
